Welcome to DuPont Elementary School
Letter from the Principal:
Welcome to DuPont Elementary School! We are anticipating an exciting year – with almost 370 students expected to enroll in grades K-4. The teachers at DuPont Elementary have been working hard to prepare for the 2008-2009 school year.
DuPont Elementary is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. This is an achievement that a limited number of schools within the district have been awarded. We are proud of the standards of excellence that our faculty and staff uphold. High expectations for student achievement and success are encouraged daily.
Reading and writing will receive great emphasis throughout the school year. Please take time to read with your child on a DAILY basis. The reinforcement you provide at home will assist your child in their quest for academic success. Research shows that if a child is reading behind his /her grade level by the third grade, they may struggle throughout their academic career.
It is imperative that students arrive at school on time and do not leave early. The last 15 minutes of the day will be just as important as the first 15 minutes. Establish good habits early by getting to school on time and setting up appointments after the school day ends. Your help with this is vital!
Parent involvement will be a high priority this school year. We need for you to take an active role in your child’s education. You can do this by talking with your child’s teacher frequently, eating lunch with your child, attending PTO Meetings, joining the PTO, checking and signing your child’s Student Planner or Notebook EVERY DAY, reading with your child daily, and encouraging your child to do their best each and every day.
This handbook (Student Planner for grades 2-4) is provided to assist you with school rules, policies, procedures, and other related services. If you have a question that is not addressed in this handbook, do not hesitate to call the office between 7:45 – 4:00 on school days.
Welcome aboard! We are glad you are a part of the DuPont Elementary School Family!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Stephanie Hoskins
Principal
